City Utilities of Springfield dedicate largest solar farm in Missouri
During an event held earlier today, representatives of City Utilities of Springfield and Solexus Development, dedicated the largest solar farm in Missouri.
“This project demonstrates that solar can be a great energy solution in Missouri, and that it can be a valuable resource for municipal utilities such as City Utilities.” said David Bunge, President – Solexus Development, “The Technology is sound, the sun is great, the officials involved both at the state and local level are professional and supportive, and ultimately solar provides great value to both the utility and the local community.”
The CU Solar Farm, consisting of almost 22,000 panels on a 40-acre site, is currently Missouri’s largest solar farm and has the ability to generate 4.95 megawatts of energy. Constructed, operated and maintained by Strata Solar, the CU Solar Farm is expected to produce enough energy to power approximately 900 homes each year. City Utilities has a 25 year contract with Strata Solar to purchase all power produced by the farm and also has an option to purchase and take ownership of the farm and equipment at a future date.
